RE: Randall and Marie Martin Scout Camp, Pilot Rock, OR
We are pleased to share with you that Girl Scouts Eastern Washington &
Northern Idaho and Blue Mountain Council are now joint owners and partners of
the 3400 acre property in Pilot Rock, Oregon. The property was a generous gift
from the Randall Martin Estate to provide camping experiences to Scouts in
perpetuity.
It is our intent to offer wilderness camping as early as May, depending on
the weather, for all girl and boy Scouts. The councils are in the midst of
establishing a long term plan with staff and volunteers from both organizations
starting spring 2011.
In addition, both organizations are planning a few events, such as
backpacking for older girls, the Boy Scout jamboree, and "group" camping by
troops, units, service units, adult training events, and more.
Since this will be our first summer for property access, we will be working
to accommodate requests as they come in from both organizations. Only outdoor
advanced camping for "groups" will be available this spring and summer, with the
required adult ratio per group with the approved training requirements. When you
camp, you will need to pack out what you pack in.
A joint open house/work party is being planned for August where volunteers
can come to camp, work, and enjoy the vast outdoors that this property has to
offer. Information on date and registration will be posted on our respective
websites in late spring. This event will be at no cost to registered members of
Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
For both organizations, your contact for calendaring camping will be Lori
Miller, lori.miller@scouting.org at the Blue Mountain Council. You will need to
follow each organization’s respective policies/requirements prior to your trip.
Contact for Girl Scouts will be Marcy Mastel, mmastel@gsewni.org or Doug Duer,
dduer@gsewni
